We are investigating an ATM card theft/distraction theft in the St Albans city centre

We are investigating an ATM card theft/distraction theft from an individual in the St Albans city centre, between 17:00pm and 19:30pm on Thursday 19th June. The victim had gone to the ATM machine to withdraw cash, but after placing the card in the machine the card would not return. Later that day victim’s card was used to withdraw cash. 

Have you noticed anyone or anything suspicious in the area or do you have any information that may be of use to the police regarding this crime?

If so, please contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 and quote crime ref-41/56416/25.

 

Tips

*It’s Very important you Cover the keypad with your hand when entering your pin.

*Avoid conversations with strangers while using the ATM

*Beware of your surroundings and anyone near you while using the ATM, and report lost/stolen or if card does not return at the ATM immediately to your bank. 

*Look for any suspicious device or anything out of the ordinary attached to the ATM and report to the bank
